Abstract
Teaching and assessing intercultural competence Debbie Corder and Alice U, AUT University This presentation is based on the experiential model of learning, teaching and assessment used in a first-year intercultural competence module at AUT. The processes and tools used to develop and assess intercultural competence such as knowledge, skills, attitude and the critical reflective dimension, will be presented. The learning, teaching and assessment approaches are being evaluated in a longitudinal research project, and examples of students’ reflective blogs for evidence of subjective introspection will be discussed. Although not language specific, the experiential model could be easily adapted for different levels of language specific classrooms.
