Hospitality Oral History: A Repository of Socio-Temporal Knowledge

Permanent link for this collection

This collection of oral histories relates the subjective experiences of key players within Aotearoa New Zealand’s hospitality industry. Our contributors have made significant contributions toward hospitality in New Zealand and consequently, capturing their stories is important. While you may be interested in following the narrative of one contributor, we recommend that you also explore the narratives of others. In that way the synthesis of contributor narratives will provide you a wider perspective in your exploration of the history of hospitality in Aotearoa New Zealand.

While more narratives will be added to this collection, we invite you to enjoy the following uploads:
  • Billy Farnell; current owner of Shanghai Lil’s on Auckland’s Karangahape Road, Billy's history is an extensive journey through hospitality culture.
  • Warwick Brown
  • Bart Littlejohn
  • Valarie Littlejohn
  • Ruth Pretty
  • Don Fletcher
